Production steps

1. Creating the pattern ❤️

  • Cut out a square measuring 35.5 cm x 38 cm.

  • Draw half a heart following the measurements indicated in the diagram: 7 cm, 9 cm, 11 cm, then connect the points to form a rounded arc.

  • Cut along the half-heart, open it and obtain a whole heart which will serve as a pattern.

2. Cutting fabrics

  • Cut 2 hearts from your main fabric, 2 hearts from the lining and 1 heart from the fleece or iron-on.

  • Cut out the ruffles: 2 strips of 13 cm x 130 cm from the main fabric.

  • Cut out the handles: 2 strips of 10 cm x 61 cm from the main fabric.

3. Creating the ruffles

  • Place the ruffle strips right sides together, pin and sew 1 cm apart to form a circle.

  • Open the seams with an iron.

  • Fold the ruffles on themselves and iron to close them well.

4. Creating gathers

  • Make two gather threads on the free side of the ruffle using a wide stitch without securing stitch.

  • Tie a knot on one side, then pull the threads to the other side to create regular gathers.

5. Assembling the steering wheels

  • Place the ruffles on the heart fabric right sides together, with the top of the ruffles facing inward.

  • Distribute the gathers evenly, pin and sew 0.5 cm from the edge.

6. Attaching the fleece/iron-on

  • Take the other heart (without ruffle) and attach the fleece or iron-on fabric inside out.

  • Sew all around 0.5 cm from the edge.

7. Heart assembly

  • Place the heart with ruffles and the heart with fleece right sides together, the ruffles sandwiched together.

  • Pin and sew at 1 cm, leaving an opening of 21 cm at the top of the heart.

  • Turn the heart right side out.

8. Creation of handles

  • Fold each strip towards the center, iron, then fold in half again.

  • Pin and sew 0.5 cm from the edge.

9. Assembling the handles

  • Place the handles right sides together on the top of the heart.

  • For the second side, orient the ruffles downwards and place the handles on top.

  • Pin and sew at 0.5 cm.

10. Assembling the liner

  • Place the two lining hearts right sides together, then sew at 0.5cm, leaving 21cm unstitched at the top.

  • Make a small opening at the bottom of the heart to make it easier to turn over.

  • Open the seams and iron well.

11. Liner Placement

  • Turn the main bag inside out and the liner right side out.

  • Place the handles inside the bag, then insert the liner.

  • Match the side seams, pin and sew 1 cm from the top edge.

  • Turn the bag inside out using the opening left in the lining.

12. Finishing

  • Close the opening in the lining and iron the bag well.

  • Your heart bag is finished! 🎉
