Noémie Gomez’s tips for enhancing the #PippaLike dress

Here are the 5 sewing modifications that Noémie recommends to make the dress even more pretty and professional.

1️⃣ Create a neckline

Instead of a simple hem, Noémie advises making a neckline band.

Method:

  1. Measure the neckline of the dress
  2. Multiply the measurement by 0,8
  3. Cut a strip from the jersey
  4. Assemble it with an overlock
  5. Topstitch with straight stitch

Result: a neckline sharper, more durable and more professional.

2️⃣ Add a side slit

Leave a small opening on one side of the dress to create a nice slit.

This modification brings:

  • more comfort for walking
  • a more elegant silhouette
  • a slightly more modern style

3️⃣ Remove the center back seam

For a cleaner result:

  • remove 1 cm at the center back
  • cut the piece back to fold

Thus, the dress did not no more seam in the back, which gives a much cleaner result.

4️⃣ Add a sleeve cuff

Noémie also added a sleeve cuff.

For this, she was inspired by Madi Sew tutorial.

She created a reverse piece which sits on the sleeve for a very neat finish.

This little detail provides:

  • style
  • a seam finish
  • a more structured appearance

5️⃣ Make a wide hem

It is the detail that changes everything 🤫

Noémie advises:

  • a hem of 5cm
  • folded twice
  • then stitched twice 5 mm apart

Why?

This type of hem creates a natural lead on the bottom of the dress.
The fabric then hangs much more nicely.

The result

With these small improvements, the Mandy dress becomes:

  • more elegant
  • better finished
  • even more pleasant to wear

The red organic cotton jersey give it one side at a time chic, comfortable and timeless.
